Whitney Motorsports to provide Sprint Cup car for Military Motivational Weekend 2010 at Ft. Benning
Harrisburg, N.C. (October 28, 2010) — For the second time this season, Whitney Motorsports will provide one of its Sprint Cup Series racecars for American servicemen when the No. 46 Cash America/MilitaryWarriors.org Dodge Charger is on display at Ft. Benning's "Military Motivational Weekend 2010," starting on Thursday October 28.
Whitney Motorsports crew member and team chaplain Ken Chupp will also be present, along with the racecar, at a variety of venues in historic Fort Benning. The racecar will visit soldiers of the Wounded Warriors Foundation, basic training brigades, and the Club Beyond Youth, an outrach program to children and teens whose parents are serving overseas. Chupp will also speak in a variety of chapel services at Regimental Chapels of Fort Benning on October 31.
"Whitney Motorsports is proud to be a part of this weekend and give back to our country and our service men and women," said team owner Dusty Whitney. "Our military's history of hard work and excellence has motivated so many people throughout our nation's history, including every one of us on this race team. We can't thank Ken (Chupp) enough for all the time and effort he's put into this program on our behalf. It means a lot to the members of the military and it means a lot to all of his teammates too."
Several members of the military will also have the opportunity to attend the weekend's Camping World Truck Series event at Talladega Superspeedway on October 30 courtesy of Whitney Motorsports and it's marketing and public relations agency Linkous Enterprises, Inc.
"It's the least we could do for our fine service men and women," said Linkous Enterprises president Ron Linkous. "I only wish we had the means to supply tickets to every member of the military. We all know there are millions of our soldiers all across the world that love their NASCAR and it doesn't get any better than Talladega. We'd love to have every one of them there with us, but unfortunately that's just not possible with all that's going on around the world. Hopefully through this small gesture we can let a small number of them know we're totally supportive of what they're doing for us all around the world that they are in our hearts."
The Whitney Motorsports team, with Michael McDowell driving the No. 46 Dodge, will compete in this weekend's Amp Energy Juice 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Practice is set for Friday October 29 with the 43-car field set in two-lap qualifying runs on Saturday October 30. The 188-lap/500-mile race is Sunday at 1 P.M. Eastern (live, ESPN/MRN Radio/Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128).
