David Starr No. 05 Cash America Impala Preview: Wypall 200 at Phoenix Int'l Raceway

Ft. Worth, Tex. (November 11, 2010) — David Starr is always anxious to strap into a racecar, any place, any time. After a rough outing at Texas, his home track, that saw Starr get shoved into the outside wall by another competitor and the resulting damage causing a right front tire blowout, Starr is ready to move on to another track that Starr has a special fondness for: Phoenix International Raceway. Starr is a former Camping World Truck Series winner at Phoenix, taking the checkered flag first in 2004.

Is it hard to put a disappointing weekend behind you? "We all want to go out and run the best we can every week, so when you have something happen outside of your control that ends your day you are always disappointed. We really wanted to run well at Texas last week for a lot of reasons but it didn't happen. It's my home track and I've always run really well there, and we had a lot of Cash America people there watching us because they're based in Ft. Worth too. But that's all part of racing. You can't dwell on what happened last weekend because that doesn't help you at all with this weekend."

You always say your favorite track is the next one you're racing at, but is there any extra fondness for going back to Phoenix? "I look forward to racing anything I can whenever I can wherever I can. But whenever you go back to a track where you've had previous success is always a real confidence booster. I've always liked racing at Phoenix. The two ends are totally different and the driver can make a big difference at a track like that. Whenever you go to a track that demands a lot from the driver you look forward to going there and showing what you can do."

What is the key to a fast lap around Phoenix? "Phoenix is a handling track, but you need to compromise with the setup because the corners are so different. Turns one and two are tighter and have more banking, turns three and four are flatter and more sweeping. If you get the car perfect at one end, you're going to have to carry it at the other end. You also carry a lot of speed at Phoenix. You need a good strong engine with a lot of power to get you up off the corners and down the straightaways."

Starr at Phoenix: David has ten previous Camping World Truck Series starts at Phoenix with one win (November, 2004), one top-five, and four top-ten finishes. His average start is 20.5 and his average finish is 14.6. He has completed 1,383 of a possible 1,503 competition laps (92.0%) and has led 28 laps. He finished ninth in the NCWTS race at PIR in 2009.
