David Starr No. 05 Cash America Chevrolet Impala Preview: Ford 300 at Homestead
Ft. Worth, Tex. (November 19, 2010) — David Starr will again do double duty this weekend as he competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series season finales at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Driving the No. 81 Zachry Toyota in the Truck Series is his "day job" and his focus there is on consistency and gaining as many points as possible without doing anything to negatively impact his position in the standings, but when he straps in the No. 05 Cash America Chevrolet on Saturday the only objective he has is to get the best finish possible.
How different is your approach in the Nationwide Series versus in the Truck Series? "Racecar drivers always want to win and if we can't win, we want to finish as high up as we can. But when you're in a points race sometimes you can't take all the chances you might like to. I am not racing for points in the Nationwide Series so we get to focus on racing hard and getting up as close to the front as we can. It's the last race for this type of racecar in the Nationwide Series so we can maybe run it a little harder than we could since we don't have to worry about racing it again if it gets torn up."
How do you like racing at Homestead? "I think every driver in NASCAR likes racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway. You can run anywhere you want. If you can't make your car work down low you let it drift up and you might find a better line in the middle or right up next to the wall. You might run low at one end and up high at the other. It's fun inside the car and I know it's an awesome show for the fans to see us three and four wide through the turns."
It's a big weekend for you since both of your sponsors — Zachry and Cash America — do a lot of business is southern Florida; does that add any pressure on you? "First of all it's a lot of fun to visit with all of the employees and customers for both Zachry and Cash America all across the country. There are a lot of Cash America locations in Florida and they'll have a lot of guests at the track all weekend. It doesn't add a lot of pressure, I put a lot of pressure on myself to go out and perform every week, but we do want to go out and run well for them. We appreciate all of their support and what better way to thank all of them than by going out and running well and getting them a good finish."
David at Homestead: David has eight previous Camping World Truck Series starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway; his best finish was third (November 2003 and November 2004). He has two top-five finishes and six top-ten finishes, including a seventh-place finish in 2009. His average NCWTS start at Homestead is 19.9 and his average finish is 8.4. He has completed 1,079 of a possible 1,081 competition laps (99.8%) and has led 16 laps in two races. This will be his first attempt in the Nationwide Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
